Government approves African Trade Area agreement

The Council of Ministers, headed by Dr. Mustafa Madbouli, Prime Minister, approved the draft resolution of the President of the Republic on the founding agreement of the African Continental Free Trade Area and its annexed Protocols. The agreement aims to increase intra-trade among Member States and enhance competitiveness of industry in Africa, through the gradual phasing out of tariff and non-tariff barriers to trade in goods and services, to the Customs Union on the African continent, the agreement covers trade in goods and services, as well as investment and intellectual property rights,

and competition policy.
The Council of Ministers, headed by Dr. Mustafa Madbouli, the prime Minister, approved a number of important decisions, including the President’s draft resolutions on the agreement between the Governments of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Federal Republic of Germany on technical and financial cooperation, signed in Cairo on 23/12/2018.
Under this technical agreement, the German Government provides, at its own expense, contributions totalling €48 million, to support a number of projects, notably energy efficiency, renewable energy expansion, support for Egypt’s education system, promotion of employment, and promotion of small enterprises and intermediate, solid waste management, infrastructure development, management reform initiatives, improvement of public services, and increased incomes of smallholder farmers.
